With reference to your letter dated 10th July, 1940, number 53614/40 regarding the appointment of Ma jor-General E.F. Norton, C.B., D.S.O., M.C., as Governor and Commander in Chief, Hong Kong, with the acting rank of Lieutenant-General, I am commanded by the Army Council to inform you that they concur in the grant to General Norton of a salary of £3,550 per annum in addition to entertainment allowance of £2,200 a year and an allowance of £4.566 Hong Kong dollars.

As stated in your letter under reply the colony of Hong Kong will be liable for a pension contribution at the rate of £105 per annum.
